The Voie des Vignes by bike
A paved greenway running through the climats of the Côte de Beaune, the vineyard plots listed as UNESCO World Heritage. Flat and shaded, it makes for lovely outings. Bike hire in Beaune, and in Épinac in summer.

Hot-air ballooning over the vineyards
The company flies from Remigny, over the Côte, early in the morning or late in the day. Allow three to four hours in all, flight included. Book directly with them, well in advance in high season.

The Hôtel-Dieu de Beaune
The hospital of the Dukes of Burgundy, with its glazed-tile roofs, its Salle des Pôvres and Rogier van der Weyden's Last Judgement polyptych. Allow two hours.

Bibracte and Mont Beuvray
The capital of the Aedui, on a Morvan summit at 821 metres. Archaeological museum, excavations open to visitors in summer, beech woods and viewpoints. A full day out if the weather allows.

An 18-hole course and a second of 9 holes, laid out among lakes and plantings, two kilometres from Beaune. Open to visiting players, with equipment for hire.

Walking in the Morvan
The park covers 280,000 hectares of forests, lakes and hedgerow country across 133 communes. Autun, the most populous of them, is twenty minutes away: this is where the Morvan begins. Maps and waymarked routes are available from the park.

The great lake of the Morvan, with lifeguarded beaches in summer, an eighteen-kilometre waymarked circuit and fishing pontoons. Permits and hire on site.

Autun, the ancient city
The tympanum by Gislebertus, the ramparts and Roman gates, the ancient theatre, the Musée Rolin. The closest outing to the estate, and by far the richest.
